Clean Your Bike Shoes

HOW TO: CLEAN YOUR BIKE SHOES

While you're having great adventures on your bike, your shoes can be put to the test. Think about your rides: dust, rain, and mud can shorten the life of your new shoes. That's why it's important to follow these simple tips to keep your shoes looking their best.

STEP 1: Remove most of the mud with a damp cloth. It's best to do this as soon as you've finished cycling, while it's still fresh, so it's easier and more effective;

STEP 2: For stubborn dirt: take a bucket of lukewarm water, and a soft-bristled brush. Using the latter, after dipping it into the bucket to gently scrub the shoe, paying attention to buckles/rotors and cleats. Once done, rinse them with cold water.

STEP 3: Be gentle: these items are as important as they are delicate (which is why you shouldn't use a harsh detergent), so wash your cycling shoes with care. They will last as long as their performance.

STEP 4: Once they're clean, it's time to dry them: remove the insoles - this will reduce drying time - loosen the fasteners so that as much air as possible can pass through, and insert some rolled up newspaper to absorb excess water and keep their shape.

NOTE: Do not dry your shoes in direct sunlight or heat (radiators, heaters, hair dryers, etc.).

OTHER USEFUL ADVICE ON SHOES

It is a good idea to periodically check the condition of each individual
part of the shoe to avoid breakages and physical problems, both
during and after your outing.
Maximum attention should be paid to the cleats: it is important to
make sure that they are always clean and in order to make the
release from the pedal as smooth and correct as possible. If you feel
that they release too easily or too late, if there is too much play on
the pedal or if they are obviously worn, we strongly recommend that you
change them: it's not worth risking your safety.
